10hb Disember 2010
Jam 12-1tengahari.
Bandar Puteri seksyen 10.

Is community policing effective in reducing crime?
Dear members,
When someone ask me about whether community policing is effective in reducing crime, my answer will be a Big Yes. The implications of community policing varies in different community. We cannot apply the same methodology in every community as each community has it owns problem and needs. If we take Taman Medan community and Damansara community we can see a vast difference in social needs and demands. therefor the OCS ( officer in cbharge of station ) needs to understand the role its has to play in various communities in order to successfully implement community policing.
When one ask me to produce proof that community policing works, I can't reveal much. As the community help the police, many information is considered confidential and some of them can be regard as highly confidential. As Rakancop couldn't garner quality information the same cannot be said about community policing. Building a close rapport with the officer in charge, the public will be more confident in revealing lot more information which is valuable and of high impact. Information leading to busting of drug labs and guns recovered certainly cannot be revealed to public the identity of the whistle blower and neither I believe that the community policing member dare to claim credit knowingly their life will be at stake. I dare to say that community policing enable the public to come forward to provide better quality information compare to Rakancop.
In community policing, we also have a sense of belonging whereupon we are being recognised as the friend of the police and gather every month to be updated on the latest crime trend. In carrying out patrol duties , community policing members inadvertently will create a sense of brotherhood therefor it breeds national unity. As members of patrol comes from different races, it will foster better understanding among each other and the responsibility to maintain the safety of every members will certainly forge a stronger Malaysian community.
Therefor we dare to say that community policing should be implemented in every housing estate not only to reduce crime but to build a better and stronger community and lastly a stronger Malaysia. It will certainly leads to a better understanding and more tolerant Malaysia society.
